New pen

Generally, the pen can be used normally after it is in the water, and there is no need to take out the water and soak the new pen as some people said. Of course, sometimes it is inevitable to encounter the situation that the pen does not run out of water or the nib is dry. At this time, it is necessary to deal with it a little. Generally, it is necessary to clean the pens with poor ink flow after purchase, because some pens have not cleaned the ink when the nib is inspected before leaving the factory or after the customer's test at the counter. Ink guide slot, so it will lead to poor water. In this case, you need to remove the pen tip, put it in warm water (do not boil water), soak it for half to an hour, and then wipe it dry. After it is installed, it can be used normally. If it still doesn't work, you can extend the soaking time. If it still doesn't work, you need to remove the metal piece of the nib, and then use a small brush to clean the ink guide groove on the back of the tongue and the entire capillary structure (that is, those small slits on the plastic part of the nib). The poor water flow may also be the cause of the nib itself. One is that the front end of the nib is too narrow. At this time, you can press the nib slightly hard according to the writing posture when you usually write, and hold it for one to two seconds, or you can use a thin blade to expand the gap, but you must be careful. The second reason is that the ink guide groove is too narrow. At this time, a thin blade needs to be used to expand the ink guide groove. Be careful as well. For some new pens, there will be some poor water flow just at the beginning. That is because the new pens are like this from the factory, so don't be too nervous. After two or three days of writing, the writing will be smooth and the writing will be much easier.

Maintainance

When writing, some manuscript paper should be placed under the paper to enhance the elasticity of the pen tip and reduce friction. Do not write on the nib on hard materials such as metal to prevent damage to the nib. Avoid mixing different inks in daily use, so as not to cause sediment to block the pen. The pen should be cleaned once a month or so to keep the ink flowing smoothly. If carbon ink is used, it should be cleaned more and must be cleaned. If the pen is not used for a long time, it should be washed and stored. And don't use too much force when writing.

Cleaning

Generally, when cleaning, you can repeatedly absorb water and drain until the discharged water is clean, and then wipe it dry. If you want to wash the pen for a long time or plan to wash and seal the pen, you need to disassemble each part and wash it separately. After preliminary disassembly, it is divided into five parts: the nib, the converter or connecting screw (of the ink dispenser/sac structure), the grip, the cap, and the barrel. The metal part of the nib and the tongue (inking structure) should be further disassembled, the metal piece of the nib should be rinsed with water, and the entire inking structure can be carefully brushed with an old toothbrush, and then soaked in warm water for one night. All parts are cleaned and wiped dry, and they can be installed and sealed when they are completely dry. Of course, different pens have different structures, and not all pens can be disassembled. For pens that are difficult to disassemble, only the first method can be used to clean them. Do not forcefully disassemble and damage the pen.

It needs to be mentioned here that there is an elbow pen called "calligraphy pen", which has the characteristics of large variation in the thickness of writing strokes. When in use, the pen holder is lowered, the strokes are thicker, and slightly larger characters can be written; the pen holder is raised a little, the strokes are thinner, and slightly smaller characters can be written. This pen is more expressive than ordinary pens, and is often used to write larger fonts such as envelopes. However, it is difficult to write with this kind of pen, and beginners should not use it to practice calligraphy. Finally, there is another point to pay special attention to: Never use boiling water or overheated water to clean the pen, otherwise it will cause damage to the pen.
